Why Cats Are Territorial

Do you know why stray cats are territorial? Well, that’s because they don’t have enough food to eat, and a good enough place to live. It’s a cat-eat-cat world out there, so these strays have to fight. Thank goodness I’ve a human pet to take care of my needs.

Enough Food and Shelter
We need to have enough food, so if we have our human pets, we are usually well-fed. There’s no need to bother ourselves with becoming territorial.

Vying For Female in Season
Unfortunately, as a former He, I don’t need to bother about this. I don’t need to fight with other Tom cats so this is not a problem for me.

Dominance of Area
Many cats live in close proximity to each other, so apart from our own backyard, we don’t really need to worry about keeping other cats away.

As a result, we are more sociable now, and if any other cats wander into our territories, we will put up with them, or sometimes welcome them. As long as we are comfortable where we are, all our security, food and shelter requirements are being met without any action required on our part, we don’t need to be territorial.

Thus, human pets don’t need to worry about living near another cat owner. We won’t leave our scent all over people’s properties, and we won’t get into fights that regularly. Everybody’s happy then.
