Newborn Kittens
My neighbour just had kittens, and do you know that we cats are born with our eyes shut tight? We cannot see or hear, but we can cry and purr. It’s a little tough to walk, so it’s easy to fall down.
The cat will put a paw around her babies and not let the dog get them. To keep warm, the kittens will snuggle against the warm fur of their mother. If any human dares touch them when kittens are just born, then the mother cat may become a murderess. The new scent can be quite discomforting.
So what do young kitten do when they are hungry? They will find the mother’s nipples and start sucking milk. I guess we don’t need to be taught this.
It will probably take us a week or more before our eyes start to open. That tiny ray of light was too much for our eyes. It takes time to get used to it, so as days go, we start to see more.
At this point in time, kittens still cannot hear anything. So, you humans can stop calling out to us. They don’t hear a thing and I find it funny when you make the tsk tsk sounds to get the kittens’ attention. Don’t waste your breath. Pay more attention to me!
It is only by the end of two weeks, that kittens finally get to hear sounds.
