Cat and It’s Meow

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Cat lovers have a way of communicating with their cat. When they hear a cat meow, cat lovers would have this sense of understanding of what their cat wants. For some people, understanding what their cat wants comes so naturally that a stranger would often wonder if the owner actually speaks cat language. Well, whether a person do or do not speak cat language, a cat meow would definitely tell you something by merely paying close attention to the tone of the cat meow.

How Does One Understand A Cat Meow?

Body language that accompanies the cat meow would help to comprehend what your cat is trying to tell you. If your cat meow incessantly and would start walking towards the food dish, this means that your cat is hungry and would like to be feed. You see, your cat has a way of telling you what it wants so pay close attention to the tone of the cat meow and the body language that accompanies the tone.

Now, what if your cat starts rubbing itself on your leg and producing some soft cat meow? Typically, this means that you cat wants to be petted and cuddled. Cats are really very sweet creatures and they like to be cuddled so pay attention. Now, what if your car start to make that harsh cat meow and its fur stand up? The fur is a good indicator of the mood of you docile cat, if erect it implies that your cat is no longer docile but agitated and angry. And an angry cat would surely appear furious with it’s fur projecting the sky making it look bigger and hostile. If your cat meow and move away with its fur standing up, do not push it. Your cat is not in he mode to play with you so let it be. Cats at times enjoy private time alone, hence if you cat resists your effort to cuddle it, leave it on her own.

The cat meow of a sick cat takes on some other dimensions. If you hear your cat crying in the night in that soft pitiful sound, there is a big chance that your cat is not really feeling so well. Check your cat and find out what is wrong. Forget that cliché that your cat has nine lives because there is no such thing as cats having nine lives. As soon as you realize that you Cat is not keeping well, immediately bring it to a Veterinary doctor to avoid any complications.

Urinary Crystals In Cats Increase Risk Of Feline Urinary Tract Infections

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

If you’re like me, you probably haven’t thought too much about urinary crystals in cats.  But if you have a cat who’s prone to cat urinary problems, you need to know more about cat bladder crystals.

Why Are Feline Urinary Crystals Important?

Even though these crystals are hard to see without a microscope, they have sharp edges which rub against the bladder walls, causing your cat’s bladder to become inflamed and irritated.Symptoms of a feline bladder infection are the result of this inflammation.

Because a male cat has a long narrow urethra, it can easily become plugged if large numbers of feline urinary crystals are present.  This is a veterinary emergency, as a cat that can’t pass urine will fall victim to a fatal case of uremic poisoning within a couple of days.  Since it’s hard for an owner to tell if the cat is blocked or not, it’s important to have your cat examined by the vet if he has a feline urinary tract infection.

The most common types of urinary crystals are calcium oxalate and struvite.

Struvite Crystals In Cats

Struvite crystals, which contain magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate, used to be very common in cats.  This problem was thought to be a result of a diet with high levels of magnesium.  Cat food manufacturers responded by producing diets lower in magnesium.  Cats eating this food also produce more acidic urine. This helps to prevent the formation of struvite crystals, which are still the most common type of crystal that causes feline urinary blockage.

Although this dietary change helped to lower the incidence of struvite crystals in cats, now vets are seeing calcium oxalate crystals more often.

Why Do Some Cats Get Calcium Oxalate Crystals Instead?

Certain breeds of cats seem to have a genetic predisposition to developing calcium oxalate crystals if they’re fed a diet low in magnesium.  This problem is often seen in Himalayans. If you feed these cats a diet to prevent struvite stones, you may be encouraging the formation of calcium oxalate stones instead.

This underscores the importance of having a urinalysis done to identify what type of crystals are found.  You don’t want to feed your cat a diet that will encourage his body to form feline urinary crystals.

Can Urinary Crystals In Cats Be Prevented?

Cat owners can do several things to prevent their felines from developing cat urinary problems.  The first is to feed your cat a high-quality canned food.  People don’t realize that cats are meant to get most of their water from their food, which is why cats don’t seem to drink much water.

Canned food has a moisture level that’s much closer to what your cat would eat in the wild.  You can also add a little water to the canned food to increase the moisture even more.   Be sure your cat always has plenty of fresh, clean water available, too.

You may want to give your cat one of the many natural remedies for pets that are available now.You can lower your cat’s risk of developing a feline bladder infection by giving a remedy that supports bladder health. It’s essential that the remedy you purchase for your kitty has been specially formulated for pets, and that it’s safe enough to give it to him every day.

Make no mistake about it, if your cat has already had a feline urinary tract infection, you can’t afford to be ignorant about urinary crystals in cats.  Take steps now to protect your cat’s health.

As a rule, cats can take care of their own cleanliness and grooming. However, sometimes you still need to do your part in order to keep them at optimal health and cleanliness. You can help to maintain your cat’s good looks by keeping her hair clean and neat. Frequent trimming, brushing and combing of your cat’s hair are the ways to achieve this.

Proper cat grooming helps to ensure that your pet remains free from ticks and fleas. It also gives you a chance to inspect the cat for signs of abnormalities such as inflamed skin or bald spots. Read on for some tips that will help keep your cat looking good.

To get the best results from your cat grooming endeavors you’ll need to buy some cat grooming tools. This includes various products such as a metal comb, a cat grooming brush, a grooming glove and grooming scissors.

When brushing your cat’s hair, use a brush that has lots of tiny pins. The head should be relatively small so that brushing goes more easily. It’s important that you brush your cat in the same direction as her hair grows. Otherwise, you might have one furious cat on your hands, not to mention several scratches.

Bathing your cat is another important aspect of good grooming. For best results use a small carrier and a towel with which to keep your cat calm. Choose a shampoo formulated for cats that will lather well. It should also be able to relieve dry, flaky skin and thereby make your cat more comfortable.

For optimal grooming, you need to make sure that your cat’s hair doesn’t get tangled or mangy. If your cat has long hair, trimming it regularly is essential. It requires using a proper pair of grooming scissors along with a comb. Use caution so you don’t prick or scratch the skin that lies at the base of your cat’s coat.

Cat grooming gloves are a wonderful tool to help with shedding problems. As a means of brushing, it’s simpler and more gentle for your cat. Look for a pair that is machine washable. Usually, you can also use these gloves to clean up cat hair from your carpet and furniture.

Pet grooming tools can actually be a source of pleasure for your cat if you use them properly. There’s no doubt that with the proper tools, your cat will avoid bad hair days and appear sleek and well groomed.
